Land Rover Will Now Locally Manufacture Cars In India

Land Rover India: In a surprising news and good news for buyers in India, Land Rover has announced that they will now locally assemble their cars in India.

India now becomes the first country outside of the UK to locally assemble the Land Rover cars. Prices of the new Range Rover flagship SUV and the Range Rover Sport will go down significantly as both cars now will be locally assembled at Land Rover’s manufacturing plant in India. Taxes on Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are predicted to go down significantly. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) takes massive pride on announcing this big news.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)

Thousands of potential buyers in India are overjoyed as prices have gone down on Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Back in 2011, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) signed a contract with Tata Motors to start manufacturing Land Rover cars at Tata Motor’s Chakan Plant located in Pune.

The new Range Rover SUV and Range Rover Sport will now be locally assembled at Land Rover’s Pune manufacturing plant. The manufacturing has already commenced.

Note: Except Land Rover Defender, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is already locally manufacturing other models such as Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery, and Range Rover Evoque.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has also announced that the construction of their new shop has commenced. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is opening a new ‘Range Rover House’ on the outskirts of Mumbai in the area of Alibaug. The Range Rover House is a concept and experience centre where customers can experience modern luxury and customize their Range Rover cars according to their preferences. The Range Rover House will only feature two models, Range Rover flagship SUV and Range Rover Sports. Both ‘Made in India’ models.

Land Rover Defender

While Range Rover SUV and Range Rover Sport are getting locally assembled in India, there is no news of the Land Rover Defender SUV.

Since its launch in 2020, Land Rover Defender is one of the highest-selling and most demanded luxury SUV in India. Land Rover India has sold over 1500 units of the Defender since its launch.

Indians would hope for the Land Rover Defender to get locally manufactured in India as the prices would go down significantly.   

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) recently launched the new Defender Octa in India. The Octa edition is priced over Rs 3 crores, on-road price in Mumbai.

Range Rover flagship SUV

The Range Rover flagship SUV is one of the most luxurious SUV in the world. In India, the SUV enjoys quite a high demand despite its expensive price tag. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) sold over 500 units of the new Range Rover flagship SUV in FY 2024. The top end and LWB variant of the SUV is priced above Rs 4 crores, on-road price.

The Range Rover is a pinnacle of luxury. It offers all resolutions – an extremely opulent cabin, plush ride, and also, a likewise capable off-roader.

The prices of the new Range Rover have witnessed a massive cut. It now costs Rs 45 lakh to Rs 55 lakh less than the previous model that was fully imported from the UK.

  • The ‘Made in India’ Range Rover 3.0-litre diesel HSE LWB is estimated at Rs 2.36 crore, ex-showroom
  • The 3.0-litre petrol six-cylinder Range Rover offers 392hp and 550Nm
  • The 3.0-litre diesel six-cylinder Range Rover offers 345hp and 700Nm

 Range Rover Sport

The Range Rover Sport is visibly the younger and small version of the flagship Range Rover SUV. Despite being slighter than the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport is one of the most attractive and influential cars. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) sold over 400 units of the new Range Rover Sports in FY 2024.

Previously, the full imported Range Rover Sport costed between Rs 1.80 crore to Rs 2.90 crore, ex-showroom. Now the prices have gone down by over Rs 25 lakh for both variants.

The new Range Rover Sport petrol and the 3.0 litre diesel are priced at Rs 1.45 crore, ex-showroom.

  • Range Rover Sport 3.0-litre petrol will continue to offer the similar 392hp
  • The diesel 3.0-litre variant will now offer 345hp

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has also launched a new more powerful variant of the Range Rover Sports.

The newly launched Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two 4.4 Petrol is priced at Rs 3.50 crore, on-road price.
